Noah loved the docks. The smell of fish made her sick, but it was a great place. She liked it because it felt like it came right out if a painting, or a novel. She had smoked a joint before coming, and now she held a regular cigarette in her hand as she walked. No one gave a second glance to the fifteen year old smoker. She stopped and sat down swinging her legs back and forth as she blew smoke rings into the air. Sry its short im on my cell phone

Davina had a great reason to hang out around the docks: the only noise was easily blocked out. Sure, there was plenty of background noise, but it was soothing, white noise. Easily blocked out by an iPod, which she currently had tuned to one of her favorite Iron and Wine songs.
She could ignore the smell, and just sit and write, which is what she was doing now. Writing an installment on a short story she had been working on, while absently dragging her toes through the water. Between her music and the scratching of her pen, she was in her own little bubble, oblivious to the outside world.
Soon, however, she noticed the smell of smoke and looked up. Another girl, about her age or a little younger, had sat down at the other end of the dock. She nodded in greeting, and turned back to her notebook.

Noah sucked a lungful of smoke up and blew rings into the air. She hummed quietly as she watched boats go by. She ran a hand through her hair and flipped the bird at a group of guys that whistled as they drove by. "fuck off." she yelled after them bringing her legs out of the water and crossed them. She went back to humming, a song her dad wrote for her when she was born. It went to number one in new zealand. She tossed the butt of her cigarette into the water and pulled out a new one, not lighting it, but holding it.

Davina, having noted the obviously drunk boys whistling and the other girl's response, murmured, "Well said."
She hadn't meant to say it out loud at all, but the words simply floated out of her moth without her noticing it. She had switched off the song in order to watch the exchange, and was about to turn it back on when she stopped. She had barely noticed the other girl's humming up to that point, but she heard it now and recognized it. It was a beautiful song, that she had heard several times on the radio during a trip to Australia, New Zealand, and some small islands in the area.
"Good taste in music." she said under her breath.

Noah turned when she heard a voice and nodded a hello at her. The other girl was writing and Noah really didn't want to bother her. She knew how annoying it could be to be interrupted. She went about humming until the other girl spoke again. Noah wasn't sure if she was meant to hear it, but she did. "you know it?" she asked in surprise.

Davina glanced back up. She hadn't expected a reply, but she nodded. "Yeah; my Australian cousins love it, and they put me onto it."
Looking down at her page, she frowned. It just wasn't coming along. She'd ended up sketching a sailboat in the margin, for crying out loud!
"I'm Davina, by the by. And you?"

Noah nodded again. She sniffed her shirt, smelling cigarettes, pot and her apple body spray. She had put the spray on that morning, she had long ago given up on hiding the smells, so she didn't waste the body spray anymore. She took a moment to process the other girl's words.
"That makes sense... I'm Noah." She pushed her hair out of her eyes and bit her pinky nail. It was almost to the nub, to the point of bleeding.

“Pleased to make your acquaintance, Noah.” Davina frowned at the page, then tore it out. Sure, littering was bad for the environment, but she could really have cared less as she carelessly tossed it into the water. It sank, almost immediately.
((Sorry it's short; I'm at school))
